SUMMARY:12/17/22 Planting Event @ Fenster Park!
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin Mid Sound Fisheries\, Green River Coalition\, the City of Auburn\, and your community members as we restore the shores of the Green-Duwamish River at Fenster Park! We are in the process of building a future forest along the Green River at Fenster Park. We have planted so many trees to build the overstory of the forest\, but a forest needs shrubs too! We will provide work gloves\, all instructions\, and all tools. Please plan to arrive on time for the start of the event and allow extra time to find parking. \nPlease sign up by following this link to VolunteerMatch! \nEmail amy@midsoundfisheries.org if you have any questions. \nCovid-19 Safety Protocol: \n\nBefore arriving at the event please check your temperature. If it is above 100.4 degrees please stay home.\nPlease stay home if you are experiencing any symptoms such as cough\, sore throat\, loss of taste and/or smell\nMasks will be worn within six feet of each other\, otherwise they are optional (we will also have extra single-use masks if needed)\nWe will maintain physical distance throughout the day.\nWe will provide a hand washing and sanitation station on site.\nWe will provide water\, but please bring a water bottle so as to reduce our use of single-use plastics!\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nGardening gloves/work gloves if you have them\, we will provide them if you do not.\nClosed-toe shoes are required! SUMMARY:Point No Point Restoration Community Mtg #10
DESCRIPTION:Please join the community learning about the feasibility of restorting the Estuary at Point No Point. Point No Point was historically a tidally-influenced salt marsh fed by a small stream which wound through the marsh to the north\, where there are now houses. The lighthouse on the site is the oldest standing lighthouse in Washington. When it was built in the late 1800s\, the marsh was diked and became a freshwater marsh. Mid Sound is working with Kitsap County\, local tribes\, natural resource agencies\, and the surrounding community to study the opportunity to restore this area back to critical salt marsh habitat. Together with Blue Coast Engineering\, we are exploring options to return tides and fish to the marsh\, address problems caused by the existing tide gate\, and develop a multi-benefit project for salmon and the community. This is a HYBRID MONTHLY MEETING (on Zoom and In Person at the Greater Hansville Community Center) . This meeting is generally held from 5-6:30pm on the LAST THURSDAY of the month. Please check the Project Page for updates\, and here on the Events Page monthly for changes to this schedule. Your input and participation are a valued part of the project. Please RSVP here to attend

SUMMARY:10/15/22 Orca Recovery Day Planting Event With Duwamish Alive! @ Fenster Nature Park
DESCRIPTION:Join Mid Sound Fisheries\, Green River Coalition\, the City of Auburn\, and your community members as we restore the shores of the Green-Duwamish River on Orca Recovery Day! Our local resident Orcas depend on healthy salmon populations for their diet. Removing invasive plants and planting native plants along river banks is one way we can help salmon populations thrive! Tree canopy along rivers provides shade to keep the water cool and tree roots keep soil in place to prevent erosion from clouding the water. At this event we will be planting native plants to ensure healthy salmon habitat into the future! \nThe event will begin with a brief discussion that includes information about the site\, the partnering organizations\, why this work is important\, tool use\, and safety. SUMMARY:All-Ages Estuary Trivia at Downpour Brewing
DESCRIPTION:Put together a crack trivia team or gloat from your stool at your singular brilliance when it comes to all things Estuarine! Come to guess & learn\, and stay for the superior microbrews & ridiculously large salmon hats! We at Mid Sound Fisheries never take trivia too seriously\, but the availability of healthy\, productive habitat – like the habitat provided by Carpenter Creek Estuary & a number of other estuaries being restored throughout Kitsap County – makes a serious impact on the survivorship of outmigrating juvenile salmon. And over 140 species  – from the caddisfly to the Southern Resident killer whale – rely upon the salmon for survival. Many of these birds\, amphibians\, insects – even humans – need estuaries\, too\, for shelter\, for food\, and for the resilience they represent for communities in the face of more serious storm surges and King Tide events. Free to play. Mulligans will cost you $1. Donations will support estuary restoration outreach at Point No Point.
